About 40 young people from the Dominican Republic and Haiti joined together for a Maximum Mission from Sept. 21-24 in the community of Los Arroces in Bonao, Dominican Republic. They used their gifts and talents to minister through service, evangelism and discipleship. The Dominican Republic Northeast District held the event with help from 3 other districts.
“FOCUS – Deny, Surrender, Follow Me,” was the Maximum Mission theme. The event was focused on reaffirming in the participants the importance of being focused on the call to “go and make disciples.”
They held activities with children and teens and met with local women to discuss their worth and beauty. They also used sports and games to share the message of salvation with local youth. Eight of them received Jesus as their Lord and Savior. On Sunday night, they held a closing service with artistic presentations. Three more people received Christ into their lives. They closed the time by celebrating the baptism of 12 teens from the Bonao Church of the Nazarene.
The church has begun holding small groups in homes as well as weekly activities with the children. They have found a place to meet and hope to begin holding Sunday services soon.
“During all of the activities we could see how God worked in the lives of the people in the community through his servants,” said Elba Duson, the Global Mission Coordinator in the Dominican Republic West District.
Angel Duson shared, “ . . . the strategies that I used to evangelize in the small shops, homes and in the streets of the community made me feel that God was with us and was speaking into people’s lives through me.”
