The District NYI of the French Antilles and French Guiana organized its annual fast, on May 8th, 2019, in collaboration with the supervising team of the local churches of Godissard, Morne Venté for the Martinique zone, as well as Cripple Gate and Orleans Quarters in Saint-Martin for the Guadeloupe zone.
49 young people between the ages of 12 and 19 participated in this event, with the purpose of taking time out with God, learning to fast together, and deepening their knowledge of the word of God. The theme of this day was: “Follow the steps of Jesus and do as his apostles did”.
This year, the day was divided into several: a praise, cooperative games to create group cohesion, a treasure hunt around the apostles (life, call, impact and character), a devotional, and a prayer time in groups, giving time for consecration, personal search and examination, and personal topics. The moment ended with a snack of fruits.
The speaker of the day, Pastor Jérôme NESTORET, brought a powerful message entitled “Meet the 12”. Through his teaching he presented three keys to observe to be a disciple:
1 ) Do not look to one’s limits, one’s weaknesses, but expect from God; 2 ) Keep the faith by fixing our eyes on Jesus; 3 ) Be disciplined. Discipline yourself.
Through the lives of the apostles, he demonstrated that “God uses ordinary people to make them extraordinary leaders and to accomplish his wonderful work” Jérôme NESTORET.
Following this fast, the president of the district NYI Kaitty MONARD testifies “The young people were able to live this extraordinary day of fasting simultaneously, despite the distance that separates the 2 islands (Martinique / Saint-Martin).
It was very strong emotionally and in the teaching.
We thank the Lord for the work he does in the life of our youth.
Two young people responded to the pastor’s call and made a commitment to follow Jesus. “Yes it is possible to be young and be disciples of Jesus!”
