On July 1st, 2017, a Work and Witness team (W&W) from the church of the Nazarene in Springdale, Ohio USA, arrived in Puerto Barrios, Guatemala to serve in several projects.
The team joined forces with El Faro Ministries and W&W from the Norcentral Area to work in the local Pediatric Hospital where the infrastructure was in great need of repair. The team repaired a roof of one of the wings of the hospital, they painted, gave a new color to the swing sets and got to visit and minister to the patients and their parents.
A second project was done at the Atlantic District. They built a much needed exterior wall to the District offices and parsonage, painted some rooms in the house and the inside of the Repegua Church of the Nazarene in Santo Tomas de Castilla.
Shared VBS with the children and after the first day, one of the teachers from the local school invited the team to share God in the public school. Her heart was heavy for the 4th through 6th graders, many of them have been experimenting with the sale and use of drugs Dámaris K. said “… We left everything that we were doing and took on the opportunity to share the love of Jesus with them… Valerie shared her testimony of how God rescued her from her wrong ways and how she came back to Him and now she is serving Him. After her testimony, we presented the plan of salvation using the Salvation bracelet; the students and teachers got to make a bracelet.”
39 boys and girls accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior. “With tears of joy, we rejoiced seeing the little ones receiving Jesus in their hearts. We took their names so that the local church can continue discipling them. Leaving our shovels and paint brushes aside to share with these children was the highlight of our week. This is the blessing to serve with the ministry of Work and Witness, that besides building a building, we are also edifying the body of Christ, the church; participating in the work that God is doing.” Said Damaris, to end this note.
