“ Then the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him.” So the Lord God formed from the ground all the wild animals and all the birds of the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would call them, and the man chose a name for each one. He gave names to all the livestock, all the birds of the sky, and all the wild animals. But still there was no helper just right for him.
So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep. While the man slept, the Lord God took out one of the man’s ribs and closed up the opening. Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib, and he brought her to the man. “At last!” the man exclaimed.
“This one is bone from my bone, and flesh from my flesh! She will be called ‘woman,’ because she was taken from ‘man.’” This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one. Genesis 2: 18-24 (NLT)
If we analyze the story, it leads us to understand the essence of what God intended for marriage. First, God is a relational God and therefore also wants man to live in a relationship. Marriage and the family are set this way, in a relationship, sharing a lifelong link. Also, when we talk about links, we have to define it as an internal union, produced between a man and a woman, which leads not only to union by a marriage, but something deeper since unity comes from knowing each other, sharing the same feelings, in which each deepens in the knowledge of the other, when both are displayed as they are, with their strengths and weaknesses, good areas and bad, accepting each other as they are. This establishes the link, which grows with the unconditional love of one another. On the other hand, this relationship and bond is between two people on equal terms, as the story says, that man and woman are made essentially the same, but with different functions. Now Adam said, I’ll call you “Woman”, recognizing the equality, but making the distinction between them. This also has a major impact, because this way the Creator states that marriage is the union of two people of different gender, also reaffirming it when He indicates that a man is to leaves his family and join his wife to form a new identity. Which absolutely and firmly refutes that there can be same-sex marriages. God does not allow any kind of union of this kind, but in the times we live in, we hear and see how these marriages are approved, driven by laws that are made by those who hold power in our countries. From the Biblical standpoint, Christians cannot accept this union. Although we are called to respect the laws of the country, our beliefs do not allow us to accept what God rejected since the world began.
With great pain we have been witnessing a story that shows us the spiritual decline of the United States of America, announced by its President, who enacts the news legalizing same-sex marriages, the CHURCH OF THE NAZARENE FAMILY CARE MINISTRY RAISE ITS VOICES IN FAVOR OF KEEPING CHRISTIANS FAMILY AND MARRIAGE VALUES , AS PROVIDED BY THE WORD OF GOD, TO HIM BE GLORY AND HONOR FOR ETERNITY.
