In the small community of Fourgie which is part of Croix-de-Bouquets commune in Haiti, there is a church named Evangelical chapel of the body of Christ (Chappelle Evangelique Corps de Christ) where there is also an orphanage called “Love the kids” and it has been working since 2009 with 45 children.
In the past 10 years, children from the orphanage were getting sick with different water borne diseases (stomachache, fever, vomiting, etc.). They often used to take them to the hospital and spending money on medicine and doctors to treat the children. This was due to drinking not treated water. Since 2019 they not only received Bio Sand Filter (BSF) through Haiti Water Project (HWP) but training on the use and maintenance of it. They started using the BSF right after and they began to see improvements in the health of the children.
Now they have realized that what was making them sick was the contaminated water and thanks to the BSF and the intervention of HWP they are happy because they have a better health and over all they are not spending money in medicine and doctors due to water borne diseases.
One of the responsible, Dor Maxime Marie Marlène said: “Thank you very much to the Church of the Nazarene, donors and the HWP because they have done great things to me: the children are totally healed – no more child born diseases. I will keep praying so God can empower the Church of the Nazarene, donors and the HWP to keep helping people in needs because a good deed is never wasted. May God blessed all of them.”
