The Nation of Guyana in South America has one of the highest suicide rates in the world; it is a nation crying out for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. From August 9 – 16, 2014, the Church of the Nazarene Trinidad and Tobago (T&T) District responded to the cry from Guyana by sending its District Work & Witness Team to work on the building of the Tuschen Church of the Nazarene and to share the Word of God in a Special Service.
Church of the Nazarene Mesoamerica Region English Field Strategy Coordinator Dr. Alphonso Porter and his family who are from Guyana welcomed the team. Also on hand to give the team a warm welcome were the Supply Pastor of the Tuschen Church of the Nazarene the Rev. Pauline Charles, her assistant District Minister Alfa Peters, the Demerara – Essequibo District Work & Witness Coordinator Pastor August “Ryan” Andrews, and the Pastor of the De Willem Church of the Nazarene Pastor Raj Persaud and his wife Antricia Persaud.
The eighteen (18) team members from the T&T District Work & Witness Team were required to raise the approximately US$ 12,000 for the ministry trip. Also, team members were required to be vaccinated against Tetanus, Yellow Fever, Hepatitis B, and Prophylaxis for Malaria.
The T&T District Work & Witness Team included District Superintendent Dr. Victor George and his wife Marilyn, District Work & Witness Coordinator Leonard Grant and his wife Lorraine, District DCSP Director Vilma Mohammed and her husband the Rev. Farouk Mohammed, Rev. Nazim Mohammed, Courtney Greene and his son Chryston, Curtis John, Rachel Maynard, Deacon Anthony Peters, Curtis Le andre, John Gibson and his wife Rita, Nicholas Desormeaux and his wife Karen, and Veronica Alleyne-Bailey.
The T&T District Work & Witness Team members were presented with tokens of appreciation by their gracious hosts. Let God be magnified!
