On September 13th and 14th of this year, in Oaxaca Norponiente District, the awaited festival and competition of the Mexican NYI, the National Bible Quiz was held. An average of 700 young people from around the country gathered to watch teams from different participating districts compete. The teams spent a year studying the books of Romans and James to get ready for this event. The event was held in the facilities of Helping Hand, Parthenon Gardens Hall and CAP (Praise and Proclamation Center) Auditorium.
Among the participants were: Central, Gulf, North, Northwest, Oaxaca, Oaxaca Norponiente, West, Olmeca, South, South Frontier, South Pacific, North and Northwest Districts
The event began with a celebration where they praised the Lord together and listened to the reflection of the Word of God, led by guest Pastor, Josué Barrera, followed by a time of competition. In the afternoon, they celebrated with praises and the Word of God given by Pastor Josué Barrera. At the end, they had a Mexican night, which showed the visitors a bit of the Oaxacan culture.
To conclude, three districts tied on the first place with a total of 9 wins and 1-loss round, these districts were: South Frontier District, West District and South Pacific District. Because of this, the jury had to deliberate on the basis of points earned by each, that way obtainixg the final result.
The award ceremony took place on Sunday at the “Praise and Proclamation Center” Church of the Nazarene where Pastor Elijah Betanzos shared God’s word with a sermon that challenged attendees.
The award time was highly anticipated, strong and vibrant cheers resounded while districts looked forward to the award given by the National Committee on Bible Quizzing Director, Edgar Manuel Corzo Garcia, who crowned the West District in First Place, South Pacific in Second Place and South Frontier District in Third Place. Subsequently, the first individual place was given to Emanuel Rocha Romero, a youth from the Central District.
Josué Villatoro, Mexico South’s NYI President commented: “God showed us His power once again in this event. He reminded us how majestic and powerful He is by sending us rain like no other and again reminding us how loving and compassionate He is by making us feel Him in every minute of this weekend. He has been good to the Mexican NYI and He has allowed us to celebrate, rejoice and become friends, closer to Him and to each other. ”
The next book we will study is Acts. This starts a new stage of preparation for the Mexican NYI. Next Quiz meet will be in JUNAMEX 2015 to be held from July 14th to 18th in Oaxtepec Morelos.
