From May 27 – June 18 leaders in Mexico held Project Paul in Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico. The goal of Project Paul is to plant new churches. The intense work of the church resulted in 330 adults and 109 children making decisions for Christ.
The project in Juarez began after a pastoral training course held in February 2017 in the North District led by Pastor Manuel Molina Flores, the evangelistic coordinator of the Border Initiative. The course focused on evangelism and domestic missions. In the course of the training, the professor proposed that the group lead a Project Paul. The leaders and 20 pastors present agreed.
The project began with preparation that included promotion, prayer and learning about the local church. The pastors recruited missionaries and church planters from their congregations. They also searched for and selected the neighborhoods where they would focus.
Saturday, May 27, the project began with training the 27 participants from 9 different churches. They did most of their evangelism work after 6:00 pm since the majority are factory workers. The missionaries formed 12 different teams to work in each of the 12 selected neighborhoods.
In the first week they focused on evangelism in homes and in the plazas using the Evangecube, the book without words, the Evangeball and Bible schools. In the second week they discipled the new converts. In the third week they began Sunday School and services in homes. All converts began a discipleship program.
Twelve church planters came from the 9 participating churches. The church planters are each responsible for one of the missions. The church planters are all volunteer lay people who will serve the missions after the initial focused effort.
Rev. Dulces Nombres Chavez, the district superintendent, received the new missions for continuing support through the district. The church planters were also all invited to participate in a course of study program through the Nazarene Seminary.
Pastor Manuel Molina Flores said, “Thank you for your prayers and support for this ministry.”
