Every year the Pastors and their Spouses of the Church of the Nazarene in Jamaica endeavour to meet for a special time of spiritual renewal, worship and bonding. This Retreat provides an opportunity for colleagues to share experiences, encourage and pray for each other, relax, refocus and enjoy a brief moment away from the demands of ministry.
Retreat 2013 was held during the period October 18-21, 2013 at the Mission House in the community of Burnt Savannah in the beautiful parish of Westmoreland. The theme for this year’s Retreat was “Healthy Pastors, Healthy Churches” and the agenda included interactive sessions exploring topics such as ‘Burnt Out’ and The Pastors ‘Nest Egg’ (Retirement/Investments). Another session entitled ‘Straight Talk’ had the males and females meeting separately to discuss matters of mutual concern.
The demands of ministry sometimes do not allow for much social activities for pastors and their spouses, hence a beach trip to a beautiful white sand, private beach in Negril, followed by a special night out for dinner was just what was needed to relax and unwind. We had the opportunity to be ministered to on Sunday
and feasted from the Word of God as delivered by Rev. Devon Daley from the Assemblies of Holiness Church. Between all the exciting sessions, the sumptuous meals which were served really ministered to the physical appetite.
We were blessed to have a couple, Rev. and Sis. Dove, who have been married for forty nine (49) years, sharing their experience with us and the secret to their lasting union.
The organizing committee must be commended for a job well done. The consensus was that it was a great time being away retreating and all were refreshed and energized to continue ministry in their respective vineyards.
