On 9th November, the Nazarene Compassionate Ministries (NCM) team of the North Central Field visited six shelters in Cobán, Alta Verapaz, Guatemala where they distributed approximately 1,120 hygiene kits, clothes and medicine.
“…Just yesterday we were praying for hygiene items for this shelter and we shared it on Facebook, hoping that someone would help us. Now look at what God sent us today!” This was the testimony of a member of the Church of the Nazarene San Luis, in San Juan Chamelco, Guatemala.
“We never know the impact that a small expression of love can have on the lives of people who have lost all they had,” said Dámaris Kellogg, NCM Coordinator for the North Central Field. “Thank you, church, for giving compassionately so that others can have what they need in these difficult times. Your donations today were a great blessing, showing the love of God and sharing a word of hope.”
The team’s visit included activities with the children and sharing of sweets. These activities were facilitated by the leadership of the Sunday School and Discipleship Ministries for the North Central Field.
The group also took time to talk with some of those who had lost all their possessions in the flooding. Their houses were covered under flood waters which reached as high as the roof yet, even in that situation, explained Kellogg, they gave God thanks for having spared their lives.
“It was a great blessing to see the unity and mobilization of the Nazarene church which worked fervently along with superintendent Rev. Francisco Cho and the district NCM team to provide food and other basic necessities to the different shelters in the community,” Kellogg commented.
“Once again, thank you church for your donations and for showing compassion towards all those affected in various ways. God bless you!”
