On October 25 and 26 of 2013, the Regional NYI council met in the Dominican Republic to plan youth ministries for the next four years in the 31 countries of our Mesoamerica Region.
With five out of the six Fields represented, the meeting began with a devotional that challenged these youth ministers to refocus the ministry’s leadership and teamwork.
They analyzed the Fields, taking note of weaknesses and problems that have been a common denominator. During their planning, they worked to turn these into strengths.
During these planning activities, it was decided to start a school of youth leadership in January in each local church, to strengthen the youth pastors online and in classroom settings with support from SENDAS, Nazarene Seminary of the Americas in Costa Rica. Thus affirming a synergy agreement.
The BE, DO, GO emphasis will be ready for all the local churches starting in early December in all languages on the NYI Mesoamerica Region Facebook page.
About the spiritual care of the group, they agreed that every Monday they would unite in prayer and fasting.
There were great advancements in the “Third Wave” event that will take place in Costa Rica in 2015. The global council will be meeting in January of 2014 in Costa Rica to refine the details for this event that the Regional NYI leadership anticipates every 4 years.
Concerning the Focus event to take place in 2016, they also made progress, including the fact that this event will take place in the English Field.
It’s relevant to mention that the team decided to work by assigning a specific job to each Field Coordinator on the council. This will make the leadership structure functional and proactive.
The following is a list of leaders and their assignments:

Global Mission: Scott Armstrong (from Central Field)

“The meeting was a rebirth for NYI. There are great dreams and goals, through congresses and conferences, to develop leaders from all fields and languages.” Commented Rev. Milton Gay.
Their time in the Dominican Republic’s Central Field closed with Abigail Soto, national NYI president, bringing all five districts together in a youth leader’s congress. The book “Flight Plan” by Rev. Milton Gay was presented. It is a tool for the development of youth leadership. There was training for 84 NYI presidents by the new Central Field NYI Coordinator, Gaby Bustos, and Rev. Milton Gay, Regional NYI Coordinator.
We thank God for this team of Nazarene Youth International leaders from our Region. We invite you to keep them in your prayers.
