Due to the passing of hurricane Amanda and the crisis caused by COVID-19, the Church of the Nazarene in El Salvador is mobilizing to serve those most affected by providing food, basic necessities, free medical consults, and training to their community and pastors.
Hurricane Amanda left entire communities affected, so the team from Nazarene Compassionate Ministries, NCM, of the Central District of El Salvador carried out a collection of non-perishable basic food and basic necessities which they delivered to an average of 450 families located in 3 shelters.
Also, due to the health crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the ministry created the “District Health Team”, composed of doctors, nurses, nutritionists, and other health professionals, to provide online consultations, as well as in-person consultations to pastors and their families, who are already receiving these benefits.
In addition, the team carried out an online training where they discussed measures to prevent contagion with COVID-19, and also an in-person training about correct handwashing practices that assisted 60 church leaders. This was done in preparation for the reopening of in-person services during the month of September.
One of the pastors that benefited from the health services shared the following: “Of the many ministries that the Church of the Nazarene counts on, if there is one that I cherish in my heart with profound gratitude, because before the pandemic, and now even more, we have counted on their unconditional support, it is NCM. There are countless medical consultations that the team of doctors together with Dr. Georgina Rivas, president of said ministry, have attended, not only with our congregation, but also with family and friends who have been restored to their health, for the glory of the Lord “.
