The Church of the Nazarene in Mexico has continued serving the migrant caravan passing through the country with the goal of reaching the USA. Through Nazarene Compassionate Ministries, the church has offered food and medical attention to children, youth and adults along their route.
On Wednesday, Oct. 24, the caravan moved from the community of Huixtla, Chiapas, towards Mapastepec, Chiapas, which is a journey of about 66 km. Some people managed to find rides on passing vehicles that offered to help.
South Mexico NCM Coordinator Edi Montejo said that he thanks God for the church’s response, which has shown its compassion in each community where the caravan has passed. Churches have established donation sites to collect food for the migrants. The Nazarene Medical Brigade has offered medical care in the shelters, and they have been well received by the health authorities. In some locations they have even served alongside local health departments. Also, water purification projects sponsored by NCM in Chiapas and Oaxaca have offered water to the migrants.
“It is a joy to serve Christ and our neighbor. It is one of the principle objectives of Nazarene Compassionate Ministries that each Nazarene would live compassion as a lifestyle,” said Montejo.
