The Nazarene Medical Brigade, a part of Nazarene Compassionate Ministries (NCM) Mexico, began providing medical services to immigrants who are passing through the country on their way towards the United States on Sunday, October 21, in the central park of Tapachula, Chiapas, Mexico. Doctors and nurses served about 140 people who reported some type of illness.
Mr. Carlos Betanzos, Coordinator of Nazarene Medical Brigades in Mexico reported that immigrants are prone to stomach diseases due to the conditions in which they are eating, poor personal hygiene, changes in temperature and rainfall. In addition, he mentioned that the most frequent conditions on the first day of the brigade were: muscle pain, bone pain, headaches, blisters on the feet, chafing, intestinal illnesses, respiratory diseases and heat stroke.
The Nazarene Compassionate Ministries coordinator in southern Mexico, Edi Montejo invited the Mexican churches to join the aid: “You can be organized as a church and bring food during the caravan, give bottles of water or a healthy hydration drink, if you have a large building you can go to the authorities to offer it as temporary shelter, donate clothes in good condition, if you are a health professional you can get involved in the Medical Brigades. We can all help, be part of the blessing and be a Good Samaritan. ”
He also sent a message to the global church to pray: “We invite you to be in prayer for Mexico and our authorities, also for the migrants, especially for the children who are in the caravan, helpless and at the mercy of many dangers.”
