The Nazarene Medical Brigade, along with local and field volunteers, offered medical services to some 500 people in the Mexico East District, Feb. 12-16. They held outreaches in the communities of Escárcega, Ulumal and Tixmucuy in the state of Campeche, and Cuch Holoch and Cepeda in the state of Yucatan. Some of the consultations required translation from Spanish to the Mayan language. District Superintendent Rev. Joaquin Ocaña joined as a volunteer and was motivated to serve his neighbors during the event.
“It was an excellent activity that shared the love of Jesus Christ through health services,” said Carlos Betanzos, the Mexico Nazarene Medical Brigade Coordinator. “Some communities we visited have access to public health centers, but it came to our attention that in the places where there was no access to public health, the number of people who came for medical attention increased exponentially. There were approximately 500 medical consultations during the event, and beyond that the evangelism team preached the message of salvation and several people made the decision to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.”
Aracely Sanchez, District Nazarene Compassionate Ministries Coordinator, mentioned the medical outreach was in conjunction with other district ministries. They offered a variety of services, including haircuts, clothing donation, craft workshops, evangelism, general consultation and orthodontics.
“We continue extending the invitation to all of our Nazarene family to join with Nazarene Compassionate Ministries, where the doors are open to serve using your vocation,” said Edi Montejo, of Mexico Nazarene Compassionate Ministries.
