Strong rains brought by Hurricane Maria in the Dominican Republic caused rivers to overflow their banks and serious flooding. Nazarene Compassionate Ministries (NCM) of the Church of the Nazarene has not reported any loss of life among church members, but their has been significant loss in homes and belongings.
In the Northeast District the home of one church member was completely destroyed and all of her belongings were lost.
In the community of El Seibo in the East District of the Church of the Nazarene, 5 families lost their homes and their belongings. Others lost all their belongings, and 20 friends from the community were also severely affected.
Ana Iris, NCM Coordinator for the East District, said that on September 24, 2017, and district team along with local churches traveled to bring food and clothing to affected areas. She also noted that even in the middle of the crisis they wors
hiped the Lord together. The NCM team is working to prepare 20 boxes of Crisis Care Kits to send to the community while they make further evaluations of the damage that will require more in depth response.
Continue in prayer for the affected areas in the Dominican Republic and the quick mobilization of response in these areas.
