On Saturday, January 14th, 2017, a great celebration was held for the organization of a new Church of the Nazarene in the Guatemala Baja Verapaz District. Las Minas, mission of the San Gabriel Church of the Nazarene, became a formally organized church. The Church has 73 active members, 5 stewards, SDMI, NMI and NYI boards.
One of the first converts told the story of the beginning of the mission, where he shared that the native settlers of the area would throw stones and reject them.
In the event, District Superintendent, Francisco Cuquej, prayed and installed Elgin Chon as the pastor. The district Superintendent blessed them and motivated them to serve the Lord with passion.
A group of brothers and sisters from San Gabriel attended the event; their Achi choir sang hymns and brought gifts and furniture for the new church.
The Superintendent shared the Word of God where he encouraged the congregation to continue working in the work of God. In his speech he said “Because this church has been organized, it does not mean that it is time to rest, the church has to keep working and look for a new field to form another church”.
At the end of the event they had a time of fellowship eating the traditional tamales and drinking coffee. Glory to God that the Church continues moving forward!
