Since the beginning of November, heavy and abundant rains have passed over the north of the Dominican Republic. This has caused bridges and roads to collapse and rivers to overflow, including the Jaque del Norte River, causing serious flooding. School classes were suspended by the Ministry of Education and more than 500 families were displaced from their homes, many of them have lost all their belongings and in some cases their home and all its content.
It was reported that in San Marco de Puerto Plata the situation is critical and the pastor’s house was flooded. The District Compassion Coordinator, Lucia de la Cruz, is working on assessing the situation for a response plan, and they have already started delivering some food bags. An offering will be collected to buy more food, and basic supplies are already being collected for those most in need.
Let us keep the Dominican Republic North District and its leadership in prayer.
