Hundreds of families in the communities of Rioja, Rodeo, Los Ranchos, Hermanos Martinez and La Cruz, Nicaragua were affected by a severe drought. In response to the need, the United House Foundation delivered packages of basic items such as rice, beans, oil and sugar to 181 families. In addition 60 needy families of the sectors 9 and 18 Somoto also received this support.
This action is part of the work of a delegation of a Nazarene missions group, from the state of Colorado, United States. From August 4th to 13th, this group also started the construction of a parsonage for the church in the Rioja, Cacaulí, in addition to teaching Bible to children, youth and adults in churches, Radio Fronteras and Canal 21 of Somoto.
Monte Smidht, group coordinator said: “We are very happy to come to Nicaragua and to help some of our brothers.” Meanwhile, Martha Lucía Hernández, a single mother with three children, from Los Ranchos village, said: “This help is very good, it is a form of how God manifests to help poor people. This is a blessing that came right when we needed it, because we did not harvest this year.” Juan López Bautista said: “This help is so welcomed because I have no fixed job and the harvest wasn’t good, my half a block of beans and corn was lost all because of the drought. I have four children, I am grateful to God and the Church of the Nazarene for this blessing.”
The Church of the Nazarene in northern zone raise local funds and shall take steps to help more families in other areas affected by the drought in the north part of our country. It will also support microcredit for planting season, and of course we are in constant prayer for God to give us abundant rain.
