The Church of the Nazarene Casa de Adoración in Villa Verde, Dominican Republic held a Christmas dinner for children of their A Step of Faith and Victory project. Around 400 children and 150 adults joined in celebrating the birth of Jesus.

Included in the celebration was a time of devotion with the sharing of the Word of God and singing, entertainment by a clown and dinner. The director of the project, Yajaira Soledad, was also acknowledged during the celebration for her work with the children.

The project, A Step of Faith and Victory, sees volunteer teachers, who are also members of the church, providing homework help to around 200 children and teens from ages 3 to 14. They meet from Monday to Friday between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Where possible, the church also provides food, clothes, shoes and school supplies.

Pastor of the Church of the Nazarene Casa de Adoración, Newton Ramírez, explained that this project started more than four years ago and has grown to the point where their meeting space can no longer accommodate the children. They are planning to extend the facilities in order to continue serving their community and in so doing, continue showing them the love of God.

“Many lives have been blessed by this ministry: families have been able to eat thanks to the food items the church shares and several persons have had an encounter with Jesus,” Pastor Newton said. “Joy has come to the children through a plate of food and the Word of God. It is a holistic ministry which has addressed both the physical health of the community, by bringing in medical teams, and the spiritual health by bringing the Word of God.”
