The following is the report of the Guatemala West District Superintendent, René Marroquín; concerning our church’s state in this district, which was the most affected after the earthquake that occurred Monday morning, which also affected part of Mexico.
In Quetzaltenango where the district office is located, the earthquake was strongly felt. Everything fell to the floor, tables, clocks, ornaments, etc. Thankfully, no major damage occurred. In the San Pedro of Sacatepéquez Church of the Nazarene, three families suffered damage to their homes. The church and parsonage fared well, thank God! In the San Marcos Church the false ceiling of the temple fell again, thank God there were no victims. In the Santa Clara la Laguna Church of the Nazarene in Sololá, a part of the temple fell.
This is what we know up to this point in relations to our churches. Unfortunately, there were people who died and were wounded in many communities. There are many damaged to homes, some were completely destroyed. This report is likely to change since due to saturation of the phone lines, I have not yet been able to communicate with all the pastors.
As always, we beg your prayers for God to save us in this part of Guatemala because we are located in a seismic zone where two tectonic plates are constantly causing earthquakes.
In Christ: Rene Marroquín, Guatemala West District Superintendent, Church of the Nazarene.
