Due to the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, many families in Nicaragua, including pastoral families, have been affected. Because of this, Nazarene Compassionate Ministries and foundations such as Casa Unida (United House), have mobilized to share food boxes and personal hygiene kits to the most vulnerable populations.
Through Nazarene Compassionate Ministries, the North district of the country distributed packages of food containing beans, rice, and oil, to some 600 families. This was during the first month of the pandemic affecting the country and, according to the district superintendent Rev. Denis Espinoza, was the most critical time. The church focused on giving said food to church members and the most vulnerable members of the community, such as widows, the unemployed, single mothers, and also pastoral families.
Casa Unida Foundation, for its part, during the first week of September, gave 85 boxes of foods to community families, among them 55 pastoral families. Each package contained rice, beans, sugar, and oil. They have also given out personal hygiene kits during the pandemic.
Rev. Roberto Viscay, one of the pastors who received a box said: “I thank God and the Casa Unida Foundation for this help we have received. I am glad, because at times it is difficult for us to obtain the most necessary items for nourishment. May God bless and prosper those who donated.”
Rev. Espinoza said that all this assistance is to fulfill the basic food needs for families that are going through a difficult time.
