A wonderful Work and Witness team arrived to the North district of Costa Rica on June 9th. The team members are from the English-speaking congregation of Ridgeview Community Church of the Nazarene and the Spanish congregation of New Horizons Church of the Nazarene which share the same church building in Bakersfield, CA.
The team worked with the Barrio San Jose Church, located in Alajuela. This local church, under the leadership of Pastor Alex Loría, has already planted one church (Tres y Tres) and is now planting a church in San Ramon, an area that has approximately 80,000 people.
The team worked alongside more than twenty Barrio San Jose evangelism team members to work in the central park talking to people about Jesus, handing out tracts, face painting and making balloon animals for children. They also painted the children’s basketball court. In Barrio San Jose, the team ministered at the local public school for three days. This is the first time the local church has been allowed to work inside the school. The school director was so pleased with the activities that she invited the team to stay another week. Although this was not possible as the team left soon after, the doors are now open for more ministry in the local school.
The team also did painting and construction work at the local church. Pastor Alex was so pleased with the work that team accomplished in just a few days.
We give thanks for the Work and Witness team from New Horizons and Ridgeview Community Church of the Nazarene. It was a difficult goodbye for both the local church and the team from the USA, but we know that even if we are unable to see each other again in this life, we will be together in heaven.
