Chihuahua, Mexico – In the midst of the challenges facing Chihuahua, such as high rates of violence and human trafficking, a ray of hope has appeared through faith. In August, five brave women from Los Alamos decided to be baptized, proclaiming publicly their desire to follow Jesus.
This significant event took place thanks to the work of a team of missionaries through the Genesis Project. The Genesis team is Dawilda Rodríguez (Dominican Republic), Jael Estrada (Mexico), and Luis Pineda (El Salvador). Since last year, they have been ministering in parts of the city where the Church of the Nazarene has little presence.
The five women, some of whom have faced feelings of abandonment and sadness, have found a new hope in the message of Christ. “Their transformation is a testimony of the power of God,” Pineda affirmed.
The baptisms represent not only an act of faith, but a new beginning. After being baptized, the women, along with five other people, officially joined the Church of the Nazarene, committing themselves to live according to its doctrines and to live a life of holiness and compassion.
The community of believers is now known as Comunidad Cristiana Oasis (Christian Oasis Community) and the new members are being discipled to ensure, once the missionaries leave, there will be solid leaders who continue the work of sharing the gospel.
This act of faith us a powerful reminder that, even in the most difficult circumstance, hope and transformation are possible. Others in our faith community are invited to join in prayer for this new congregation and the positive impact they seek to make in Chihuahua.
