The following is a brief report of the mobilization of the church following the destruction from Hurricane Maria in El Seybo, part of the Dominican Republic East District. It was written by Paquita Bido Balbuena, the Central Area Nazarene Compassionate Ministries (NCM) Coordinator.
September 30, 2017
The ministries of NCM, Work and Witness and Nazarene Youth International (NYI) had the opportunity to bring the practical love of God with words of hope, bags of food, clothing, water, and Crisis Care kits to 250 families in Villa Guerrero and Ginandiana, El Seybo. The photographs show more than I am able say.
Some local churches in the Central District helped the cause by donating clothing and food.
One sad note is that the majority of the children and university students in these communities lost their notebooks and school supplies on top of the loss of their mattresses and clothing.
The Economical Cafeteria System in the country was providing hot food in the Ginandiana community.
We continue to prepare ourselves to go to the North and Northeast Districts where there are also people affected by the recent flooding.
