The intense humanitarian relief continued through the Church in the Nazarene in Mexico after the earthquakes on September 7 and September 19, 2017.
In San Gregorio the team continued offer food and medical attention to the population. The greatest challenge in that area is with medical needs.
In Jumiltepec, Morelos, Dr. Lilly Ramos, a Nazarene Compassionate Ministries (NCM) volunteer, assumed the responsibility of medical relief efforts. They prepared a shelter for 800 families that were displaced by landslides. The COBACH (a university) facilities served as the shelter. They need pediatric medicines, blankets and volunteers to serve in the communal cafeteria.
In the community of San Luis Tlaxaltemalco, in the state of Mexico, the First and Second Churches of the Nazarene didn’t report any damages, but they have requested drinking water, which has not been available since the day of the earthquake.
Carlos Leon and Nubia Almanza are leading the response team. Cutberto Tenoria of NCM and Pascual Cruz, District Superintendent of the Central District, have assisted in purchasing basic supplies and are accompanying the caravan en route to Xochimilco.
The CREA Church of the Nazarene organized a medical team and evaluation team for San Gregorio, Xochimilco. They received help from the Secretary of Health and the Federal Commission Against Sanitation Risk to collected outdated or controlled medications. This effort was led by Dr. David Guzman with the assistance of Dr. Gabriel Tego of the National Polytechnical Institute (IPN).
The community outreach and rescue activities continue at the site of what was the Mini-super Neto (a grocery store) in San Gregorio, Xochimilco. Some young people from the Church of the Nazarene have participated in rescue teams that help to move rubble in order to rescue 5 people in the afternoon on Friday, September 22.
