On Sunday August 14th, 2016, the premiere of the Magdalena film was held in Guatemala, and on Sunday August 21st the Jesus film for children will be released in the Christian channel 27 of the country; both films in the Q’eqchi ‘ language. According to the Academy of Mayan Languages of Guatemala, the Q’eqchi language has the largest land area, is the fourth in number of speakers and is considered the co-official language of the country.
The production was a collaborative effort of: Jesus Film, Evangelism Verapaz North District of the Church of the Nazarene in Coban, Guatemala and the Association of Writers and Translators Guillermo Sedat (ASEDAT), made up of Nazarenes pastors who serve the Q’ eqchi and other Mayan languages speaking groups, with translation of writings, audios and videos.
The project started three years ago with the translation of the scripts. The recording of the voices was held on April 2015 in the district facilities. An average of 30 people, including children, were carefully selected to participate in the process. Some of them are: Emilio Choc Ico, Ricardo Coc, Francisco Cho, Gloria Fraatz, Magdalena de Maaz, Rumualda Sep, Sandra Ac, Hector Villatoro, Domingo Choc, Ana Coc, and others.
In addition, during this process, the Jesus film in Q’eqchi ‘ underwent changes in the soundtrack, introduction and plan of salvation.
On August 30th, 2016, the local premiere day, the pastors will receive the three films at no cost. Later, films may be obtained through ASEDAT, at the District Office and Jesusmedia.film.
