How do we take care of our own and our family’s mental health in times of pandemic? Here are a few tips:
- Don’t get obsessed by thinking, “What are we going to do?! How long will it last?!” Think about following sanitation rules in a logical and safe way.
- Organize the tasks at home. Everyone should participate in household chores so that everyone stays busy. It will promote household unity, which will make your family healthy and harmonious.
- Have fun times with games, funny contests, riddle challenges, charades, dramatizations, etc. Encourage everyone to participate in a time of shared laughter and joy.
- Maintain physical activity within the home.
- Both children and parents must maintain their connections with family, friends, colleagues, the church, etc. It is time to be present. Social distancing is NOT emotional distancing. Connect by sending a message or a greeting.
- It is also time to dig deeper into relationships. Take time to be with your spouse and children. Tell them about your childhood.
- Do family Bible studies, after either breakfast or dinner. Take advantage of everyone being together!
- Have prayer times with your children.
- Maintain a good attitude. Give your loved ones confidence. Tell them this will pass and you will move forward as a family, stronger, more confident and full of faith. Tell them that God will keep them.
- Have a scripture verse for this time. Mine is:
So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand
Isaiah 41:10
These will help to care for your and your family’s spiritual and mental health.
