12,000 Nazarenos que asistieron al culto del sábado por la noche en la Asamblea General adoraron en una forma única durante el tiempo musical. El grupo de alabanza- bajo la dirección del Ministro de Alabanza de la Primera Iglesia de la Ciudad de Kansas, Roger Allen- puso el tono en el culto, explotando con una ráfaga de luz y ritmos que cantaron en rendición espiritual “Deja la Gloria del Señor Levantarse entre nosotros”.
El enfoque del sábado fue Eurasia y el Director Regional Gustavo Crocker explicó la necesidad de Dios en la Europa post-moderna. Es difícil destacar lo más importante de la noche. A greater commission
It was clear the 12,000 Nazarenes in attendance were in for a unique worship service on Saturday night as early as the music rehearsal. The worship team – under the direction of Kansas City First Church “Lead Worshipper” Roger Allen – set the tone in the service, exploding with a burst of light and rhythmas they sang a spirited rendition of
“Let the Glory of The Lord Rise Among Us.” Saturday’s regional focus was Eurasia, and regional director Gustavo Crocker explained the need for God in postmodern Europe. It is hard to select the highlight of the evening. To welcome General Superintendent Emeritus Eugene Stowe and his wife, Faye, as they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary, was a wonderful moment. Then, following a video on NCM Child Sponsorship, Sherwin Rulloda, a former sponsored child, was movingly introduced to his sponsors, the Happennys.
Thanks to that sponsorship, Rulloda was able to receive an education. A children’s choir earned thunderous applause from the audience before General Assembly Jerry D. Porter was introduced as the night’s speaker. Porter emphasized the denomination’s third value – we are missional – by sharing stories of how the church has grown through discipleship. “Jesus said ‘I will build my church… you make disciples,’” Porter explained. “Sadly, too many are trying to build the church, but not intentionally discipling others.
“Who is discipling you? Who are you discipling?” he asked.
Porter projects the church to reach 10 million members by 2020 if each Nazarene creates a discipleship group of five. “When Jesus gave the Great Commission, there were 200 million people,” he said. “Today it’s 7 billion, making it the Greater Commission. ”Porter stressed at least four of the Church of the Nazarene’s seven priorities: Purposeful compassion, passionate evangelism, intentional discipleship, and church development.
